Calipso se despide de Odiseo antes que él se marche de Ogigia, mostrando tristeza por el sufrimiento que le provocó con su actitud obsesiva, aunque sostiene que no se arrepiente del amor que siente por él (“No me arrepiento de amarte”). Hermes aparece de nuevo, brindando consejos y entregando a Odiseo la bolsa de viento de Eolo para facilitar su viaje a casa en una canoa que él mismo construyó (“Peligroso”).

Odiseo logra esquivar a la criatura marina Caribdis antes de avistar las costas de Ítaca, donde se reencuentra con Poseidón (“Caribdis”). Poseidón le presenta a Odiseo una decisión difícil: optar por ahogarse o permitir que toda Ítaca sea arrasada por un tsunami.

Odysseus: Maybe you could learn to forgive
Poseidon: No. Ruthlessness is mercy upon ourselves.
Odiseo es arrastrado hacia las profundidades del mar (“Métete en el agua”), pero nuevamente abre la bolsa de viento para atacar, golpeando a Poseidón con seiscientos embates para vengar la muerte de sus seiscientos compañeros.
Poseidón le informa a Odiseo que, al abrir la bolsa, ha desatado su tormenta, lo que implica que ha arruinado su última oportunidad de regresar a su hogar. Odiseo comienza a torturar a Poseidón, apuñalándolo repetidamente con su propio tridente, lo que lo fuerza a rendirse y calmar la tormenta (“Seiscientos golpes”).
Odysseus: I don’t think you seem to get it.
I can’t afford to die,

La furia contenida y la justicia dictan cada movimiento de Odiseo mientras recupera su hogar. La determinación y la resolución se mezclan con el dolor de la violencia necesaria para proteger lo que ama. Su necesidad de aprender a ser cruel finalmente ha terminado de madurar para volverlo una fuerza imbatible, en su desesperación por volver con su familia.
