Directed by Tom Tykwer, this film is one of my favorite ones of all time. The story features Lola, a woman who receives a phone call from her boyfriend Manni who tells her that he needs an insane amount of money because he lost it in the subway. She has only 20 minutes to get the money to pay the bad guy, and save Manni’s life. If she fails to meet Manni with the cash, he will rob a store. Lola, desperate to save her boyfriend and prevent his crazy idea of robbing a store in plain sight, undergoes three different alternatives of what may happen. These outcomes change depending on minor occurrences along Lola’s run. Personally, that is what I love about the film. In my life, I try my best not to give much thought about how things turn out based on my decisions, but the film makes you extremely aware of how the future changes just for doing something differently, such as ignoring a person. Furthermore, it was crazy to see how she kept repeating the scenario from the moment she got the call. I wish I could do that in real life, just to foresee the best outcome possible in a time of need.
I will not spoil the three alternatives because that is mostly the whole film. I just have to say that I was not expecting any of the things that she did differently. So, it has the element of surprise. I highly recommend watching it. It is really fun, and a reminder to never love a man that much. She was stressed and anxious, and so was I. The film is not long, and it is fast-paced, so time flies. I felt like I needed to watch more, even though the ending was perfect and did not feel rushed. Such a thrilling experience to watch it. You can find it on Prime Video.
