Synopsis: Black Christmas (1974) directed by Bob Clark is a horror-thriller that follows the story of a sorority group being stalked by a stranger during the most awe-inspiring festive season of the year. Jess begins to receive several obscene phone calls. And, although everyone in the house is worried and does not find it funny anymore; they are more excited about spending Christmas with their families and loved ones. So, they try to ignore the calls after reporting them to the police station. However, Jess begins to find it annoying and concerning after one of her friends disappeared.
Who is this stalker? What does he want?
I recommend this film because it portrays how truly sick a human being can be. Christmas is supposed to represent love, hope, and bliss. But, in “Black Christmas” this day turns bitter, hopeless, and gruesome. Jess feels alone, and the policemen seem to fail at finding the stalker and the killer of many murders that have been appearing throughout the week and Christmas Eve. I know most people enjoy watching comfort, and beautiful films this time of the year. However, if you are into horror, and relish watching something obscure and sinister, you should definitely give it a try and watch it. It is available on Tubi for free.
I believe it is one of the best slashers of all time, and I love to rewatch it on Halloween and Christmas. The story is wonderful, even though it progresses slow-paced, every detail is fundamental and serves a purpose at the end of it. That is why it cannot move forward in fast-paced sequences. Moreover, the mystery is what draws you into the film. I, wanted to solve the enigma and made my own theories on whom the stalker was based on the boyfriends and suitors of the girls from the sorority house. Therefore, I found it very exciting and entertaining to watch. Toward the end, I could just stare at the last scene in shock. It is always frightful to see how men can hurt women, not only in physical form. If you think about it, Jess being harassed with the calls was more than enough to get her into a terrific state and make her uneasy and paranoid.
But you will have to watch the film to the end to see what happens!
